Julian's new band--Julian Star & the Planets, performs with an opening set from local songwriter Molly Black. Molly Black is a Santa Barbara singer-songwriter originally from Fremantle on the south coast of Western Australia. Sometimes crooning, sometimes raging, her music draws on the dark lyricism of Leonard Cohen and the soulfulness of country musicians like Gillian Welsh, as well as traditions of protest folk. Her first album, Pomegranate Tree, was produced in Western Australia, where she performed at a range of venues and music festivals. She recently won Best Overall at the Solvang Musicians at Play songwriters competition.
